Bubblehead wants you — to stop texting

The usual sights on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles include famous street signs, beautiful sunsets, colorful graffiti -- and plenty of law-breaking distracted drivers: SUV owners yakking on cell phones; teens texting away while behind the wheel. Now there's "Bubblehead," a giant Barbarella-like cutie holding up a cell phone whose on-screen message reads: "PLS DNT TXT & DRIVE." ‘If Lives Are in Your Hands … ‘

What if your surgeon decided to do a little text messaging while you're there on the operating table? That's the (rhetorical) question posed by short-filmmaker David McDonald, recently honored for the safety PSA video below. McDonald, 24, won $7,800 (CAN) worth of filmmaking tools in the distracted driving category of a short-film contest sponsored by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. South Dakotans see texting ad — but no laws

South Dakota hasn't gotten around to banning texting while driving. Two attempts at distracted driving laws crashed and burned in the Legislature this season as lawmakers fretted about personal liberties and enforcement.
