Excuse me. The stupid elected officials are catering to voters like you. They're afraid you might vote them out of office if they do something YOU don't like. If you had any smarts you would know that this "low level" problem is akin to drinking and driving. Talking on a phone carries the same threat as DWI. But, you see, they didn't ban "talking" on a phone, just holding the phone, which is absurd.

But, i guess since we don't want a nanny state we shouldn't have any laws infringing our liberty. We should be allowed to run red lights, stop signs, drive drunk and even kill people who get in our way.

William J. Coburn, you are out of your mind.. No state or Fed government should have the authority to (confiscation of the vehicle for all subsequent violations) because of a low level law like this.. This type of penalties should be placed on DUI / DWI drivers.. People like you are the reason why we have stupid elected officials in office…

If the NTSB recommendation inspired these bills, why are they still only proposing to ban hand-held phones? The "hypocrisy" as outline by Chairwoman Hersman, obviously continues to flourish in New Jersey and elsewhere.

I favor tougher penalties for using cellphones or blackberries while driving. I favor $1000 for the first offense, $5000 for the second, and $10,000 and confiscation of the vehicle for all subsequent violations.
